Thrifting tips&tricks!

It seems we all want things we cant afford but why wish for them instead of actually 'looking' for them? A lot of good name brands go through thrift stores more often than you'd believe. I pick up Hollister, A&F, Aeropostale, Polo, and ect all the time at second hands shops! But not all good things come easy, you definitely need patience to go through all the racks, and knacks. (And a good pair of shoes!) I have some few tips to help you find more fab then drab at your local thrift store!

 1. Always shop post season. For example, stock up on winter clothing in the spring. A lot of people will donate their used items after the time of year they use it. Savvy thrift shoppers will seize this opportunity to plan ahead for next year.

 2. Shop around. Some thrift stores might not be for you, and that’s okay. Find a thrift store you like and you will be dying to go back for more bargain hunting!

3. Search for name brands. Trust me, they are there (well, on the good days). Many thrift stores have one price scale for all items. For example, all shirts are $5. Thus, if you search for name brands you might get a Banana Republic shirt for the same price as an Old Navy shirt.

4. Remember, you’re not saving money by making unnecessary purchases so always go in with a plan and a shopping list. Even if you see a killer deal, only buy it if you need it.

5. Consider buying gifts at thrift stores. This is a great way to save money. You just might find gifts your friends and family will love for less money.

 6. Think creatively. Thrift store shopping requires flexibility and adaptability. You might not find exactly what you are looking for, but you might find a fun alternative. For example, you might be able to turn a set of sheets into curtains, or an over sized mug into a flower vase. Let your imagination run wild.

7. Create a routine. Visit the thrift stores in your area routinely to keep up on their inventory and get to know the staff (they just might be able to help you find exactly what you’re looking for).

 8. Don’t feel obligated to make a purchase. Thrift store shopping isn’t like grocery shopping where you go in with a list and leave with every item on it, so don’t be afraid to leave empty-handed. Think of shopping at thrift stores as being more like a scavenger hunt.

 9. Don’t rush. Finding great bargains at thrift stores takes time.

10. Don’t forget to give back to your local thrift stores! Instead of throwing away your used stuff, donate it.
